Walking is free,

Walking can be done anywhere and is suitable for all fitness levels, yet it’s something so many of us overlook as a great form of exercise. By walking just 1.5 km or about 30 minutes a day you can promote weight loss, boost your mood and lower your risk of cardiovascular disease.

Getting Started is the hardest part

30 minutes of walking 5 days a week is all that is needed to achieve great health benefits. If 30 minutes sounds daunting – Do not worry! You can break it down to 10 minutes of three short walks a day and get the same results.

What is holding you back? The sooner you get started the sooner you will notice the difference in your mind and body.

Going Green:

If you live in a built up city it can be hard to find fresh air and open spaces to walk in.

Green spaces and parks are more common than you think.

Use mobile apps to help you to locate the most accessible parks . Take Gurugram for instance, a city not particularly famous for its parks but even here there are 3 pieces of paradise you can go to for your recommended daily walk . Aravali Bio Diversity Park; Leisure Valley Park and Tau Devi Lal Bio Diversity Park

Getting  Social:

The Best thing about walking is you can do it with friends and catch up on all the news and gossip. It does not cost a thing, you already know how to do it and it can also be an excellent way of meeting new people. There are many dedicated walking groups that you can find on the web that will match you up with your desired social group.

Do not wait any longer. Get your trainers on and go for a walk. This will help reduce pollution and  your health. If you don’t believe me just ask Science.

Ethical and Sustainable Fashion Shopping can be fun and good for the soul  but it is not always straightforward and simple as it requires some research. Before we get into serious research stuff – Let us focus on you First.

What are you passionate about? The environment? Small carbon footprint? Handmade Fabrics? Fair trade? Locally sourced materials? No child or slave labour?

What you care about and what you value is different for everyone else. It is not easy to check all the boxes that make a product Ethical and Sustainable but things can become simpler if we narrow down what your priorities are  and what is available to you.

It is important to know that the companies you are supporting and the clothes you are wearing did not harm the environment or people.

But lets not fool ourselves – the clothes themselves need to be attractive and something we want to wear. No matter how environmentally friendly they are if they don’t fit or the colour runs – we are not going to be happy with the! We need to find out –

What is most important attribute of an outfit for YOU.

These include:

  • price
  • durability
  • comfort
  • style
  • colour
  • material

Indigo dyed Fabric

Some of these may overlap. Before embarking on your shopping spree it is always a good idea to make a list of exactly what outfits you are looking for. Jeans, tops, dresses, work wear or party wear.

Online shopping can be the easiest and many brands have a transparent trail that will let you know exactly where the clothes were sourced, right from the material to the stitching. You can chose from the ones that share your values and ethics. Check out the brands mission and vision page.

In India we are specially lucky as we have an abundance of craft bazaars where we can buy handmade products directly from the producer groups.

In Delhi we have the Nature Bazaar at Andheria More and Dilli Haat at INA.  It is very cool experience talking  to the people who have made the products and are selling them right at your door step. You don’t need to travel to remote parts of the country to buy a Jamdani or a Chanderi. Often the crafts people are happy to collaborate with customers to produce one off custom made designs for a small fee. If the clothes you buy from crafts people don’t fit perfectly please get a tailor to alter it to your size. Our crafts people need us to make a living and when we buy from them we also give them valuable feedback so that they can improve their products and making them more contemporary and market friendly.

When looking for Ethical and Sustainable clothes do not be too hard on yourself remember every small step you take makes a big impact.

The Indian models are gracing the covers of top international magazines and also walking the runway for Balenciaga, Louis Vuitton, Hermes and Chanel.

You would think that Fashion runways are about clothes but now the choice of models draws just as much attention than the clothes! the presence of Indian models have created quite a stir in this field.

About time the world took notice of the beauty of the Indian woman.

However, it is not simply about India having beautiful women – this Indian presence can be traced to:

Firstly, the increased ability of Indian consumers to buy international brands and it is believed that soon India will be one of the largest consumer markets.

Secondly, due advancement of technology which is giving models access to the  global agencies resulting in new opportunities.

We must pay tribute to Priyanka Chopra for paving the way on international scene for our Desi Girls.

The stories of their individual journeys are filled in incidents overcoming discrimination and prejudice both at home and abroad.

The good news is that the notion of beauty is changing and becoming more versatile. Skin tone is no longer a standard of beauty internationally.

However in India we continue to struggle with prejudice relating to skin tone. The true representation of our population is not reflected in our advertising and films which continue to be dominated by an obsession with fair-skin.

It is important for Indian women to make a mark on the international scene not only for our national pride but we believe that they can be champions for Make in India hope that this will open the doors of the global markets for our  Desi-designers and crafts.

We are keeping a close look on: Radhika Nair, Bhumika Arora and Dipti Sharma who have graced the covers of Vogue Italia.

Can you make your wardrobe more ethical by adding Sustainable fashion? Time for some awareness.

Do you know that the clothes you are wearing have had a long history before it landed in your wardrobe?

One of the aims of sustainable fashion is to make this journey transparent.

Do you know what this term means?

Sustainable fashion is the concept of considering the long-term environmental and social impacts of what we wear each day. The term is hazy so it gives flexibility to shoppers to choose what really matters to them personally.

Sustainable Fashion encourages you to take a minute to think – What matters to you?

In recent years shoppers have realized that there’s far more to the fashion world than what you see at first glance.

This is a good thing, as it has on one had made people curious about what material their clothes are made of;

Farm to Fashion story available for Mulberry Dress. To Shop the Look. Click on Image

  • who makes them?
  • Where was the material sourced?
  • What the environmental impact has been?

So what does it really mean for fashion to be sustainable and ethical?

It can mean many things: On the one hand it depends on which practices and policies are adopted by company.

Very few companies can afford do it all (as in, meet all the criteria of an ideal production model), which means that it’s pretty much up to you to weigh the pros and cons and make shopping decisions based on what’s most important personally.

On the other hand it has brought to light the atrocious working conditions, poverty wages, and pollution

that is intimately connected to the world’s garment industry.

It can be very confusing, trying to sort one’s way through the maze of terms and certifications that are all claiming to make fashion a better industry for all.

Recycling is a good way forward

So instead of throwing away that tee shirt you ruined in the wash, could you make it into something? Could it become a cute tote bag, a pillow, a bunch of cleaning rags, or a heating pad through some careful stitches? The idea is what we all learned in elementary school:

The Eternal style of Denim is the ideal look for the season. The versatile nature of Denim is pushing it in the forefront of fashion.

Fashion magazines and Runways around the world have been scouted by  LoomTree and we can tell you denim is undergoing a revival. We are seeing a celebration of indigo washes as the most worn look not only as Street Style but also in the Dressed-Up section.

Denim is very easily dressed up – well tailored jeans with a silk blouse and the right accessories can be a force to reckon with.

Loom Work Wear Perfection Denim

Wearing Denim to work has now become very acceptable. You have a choice from the wide range of suits; pairing them with simple white shirts or t-shirts.

A well structured Demin Jacket with a floral dress and mules will make you presentable for any meeting or presentation.

The denim market is bursting at the seams with new styles. Flared, cropped-flare, mom, boyfriend, frayed-hem, skinny and Boot Cut – Yes! Really! It’s a bit of a minefield, especially given that some styles are considerably more flattering and easier to wear than others.

But if you’re keen to look beyond your trusty straight leg jeans and experiment with more interesting options, darker washes are your friend. Not that darker shades ever went out of fashion but this season it is the highest sell-out of all colourways.

Here are some options to experiment with:
  • You can work a slightly more polished version with dark skinny jeans and blue denim shirt. Add a slick of pink or red lipstick and you’re good to go.
  •  Team your denim jacket with dark or black jeans and you will feel effortlessly cool. Try out different tones of the dark shade.

  • You can look picture perfect by teaming your double denim combo with simple pumps and a neutral tote. When double denims done right, it really is one of the best looks.

Mulberry silk – Indigo.

Every journey towards the path of sustainability starts with the first step. One tree saved; one worker in healthier working conditions or fewer pollutants in the rivers.

The key to making a lasting commitment is to understand your own passion and values and then convert these into actions. Even the big names in international fashion are getting into Sustainable Fashion.

Vivienne Westwoods Sustainable collection

Buy less, choose well and make it last

This quote by Vivienne Westwood is self explanatory.

Here are some simple ways to get you started:

Sustainable clothes are well-made of a high-quality materials is more eco-friendly because they last longer and do not need to be replaced so often. I know it is hard, but resist buying things with impossibly low price tags and lose the buy-and-toss behaviour.

Cheap in fashion simply doesn’t exist. Those clothes you bought impulsively might have been cheap to you, but once you add to them their real cost someone else had to pay with their health or damage to the environment. Not so cheap anymore

Start looking at your clothes differently.

Does this piece look great on me?

Is an important question but Should not be your only question. How about asking these as well?

  • Who made these clothes?
  • What materials were used?
  • Were the materials sustainable?
  • Where did they come from?
  • Where were they made?

Production of Mulberry silk

Being interested in the answers to these kinds of questions is the best first step towards changing the story for both the people who make our clothes and the environment.

Loom Tree is making clothes from sustainable materials, sourced from NGOs like SEWA and Sasha. We also run a community development project in Bihar and West Bengal. A mulberry plantation has been set up with a sericulture project. Hand spun mulberry yarn and handloom woven mulberry silk fabric is also being produced and will be in our stores soon.

Sunglasses can make or break an outfit. When you do them Right – they have a glamorous impact on the way you look .

We are all aware of the health benefits of Sunglasses, so lets move on to the glamour quotient.  The right sunglasses of course, radiate a really cool demeanor. Shades can also bring symmetry to your face. It can give a touch of mystery and of course make you feel more confident. Down memory lane we can just need to look at the iconic women in fashion Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Kennedy Onassis.

Audrey and Jackie harness the power of the sunglasses

With so much riding on your sunglasses it makes sense to keep ahead with the latest trends. The small frame sun glasses of the 90’s are back with a Bang! In fact the Trend dictates tinier the better. The minuscule shades  have become the glasses of choice of the fashion trendsetters like Bella and Gigi Hadid who are wearing these glasses every where – On the streets with their hoodies and on the Red carpet.

The Hadid Sisters are early adopters of the Look!

Spotted everywhere from Miu Miu to Louis Vuitton, the origins of the Matrix-esque glasses can actually be traced back to designer Demna Gvasalia, who showcased small black sunglasses for Balenciaga’s spring/summer 2017 show. Kendal Jenner was also seen on the runway sporting oval shaped frames with tinted-glasses.

But is this trend laughing in the face of practicality?

To be honest the tiny glasses are not capable of blocking UV rays of the sun or covering your eyes?  Nostalgia for the 90’s is one of the reasons for the comeback.

Summer is here!  Don’t waste Time! and do get ready for the season with a trend that is resting on the bridge of so many glamorous women’s noses.

A recommendation from LoomTree:  keep on Trend but also carry your trusted Practical Big Glasses to protect yourself from the UV rays and a bit of Nostalgia is always a classic look!

Why has The enigmatic destination of  Morocco always attracted people seeking adventure from all over the world?

The North Atlantic ocean and the Mediterranean sea ensures a diverse climate full of beauty giving the inspiration to set off on adventures. Each city and terrain of this North African country is vastly different and provides a source of delight both to the wanderer and foodies. Inviting to explore its culture, ancient medinas, endless deserts and beautiful coasts.

The thought of visiting Berber villages and tasting Moroccan food in the magical Kasbahs sets the imagination and taste buds on fire. Morocco is the culinary star of North Africa. Imperial and trade influence has been filtered and blended into Morocco’s culture. Being at the crossroads of many civilizations, the cuisine of Morocco is a mélange of Arab, Berber, Moorish, French, Middle Eastern, Mediterranean African, Iberian, and Jewish influences.

Moroccan cooking is enhanced with fruits, dried and fresh — apricots, dates, figs, and raisins, to name a few. Lemons preserved in a salt-lemon juice mixture bring a unique face to many Moroccan chicken and pigeon dishes. Nuts are prominent; pine nuts, almonds, and pistachios show up in all sorts of unexpected places.

Got your mouth watering yet? Here are some of our suggestions.

Don’t leave Morocco before trying these dishes:

Mint tea: ‘Moroccan whisky’, mint tea is the drink of choice. It is steeped with a few sprigs of spearmint stuffed into the teapot. It is poured into a tea glass from a height to create a froth called the crown.

Couscous: this is a fine wheat pasta traditionally rolled by hand. It is steamed over a stew of meat and vegetables. To serve, the meat is covered by a pyramid of couscous, the vegetables are pressed into the sides and the sauce served separately. It is often garnished with a sweet raisin preserve, or in the Berber tradition, with a bowl of buttermilk.

B’stilla: is human history on a plate. Combining ingredients commonly found in the Maghreb, spices from Persia and Arabia, traditional Moroccan pastry, and a name derived from Spanish, B’Stilla is the result of a few thousand years of conquest, religious fervor and trade. Layers of a paper-thin pastry coddle a blend of pigeon meat, almonds and eggs spiced with saffron, cinnamon and fresh coriander, the whole dusted with icing sugar and cinnamon.

Don’t keep the Mediterranean waters and the Atlas mountains waiting too long! pack your bag with the help of Loomtree.
