The Indian models are gracing the covers of top international magazines and also walking the runway for Balenciaga, Louis Vuitton, Hermes and Chanel.

You would think that Fashion runways are about clothes but now the choice of models draws just as much attention than the clothes! the presence of Indian models have created quite a stir in this field.

About time the world took notice of the beauty of the Indian woman.

However, it is not simply about India having beautiful women – this Indian presence can be traced to:

Firstly, the increased ability of Indian consumers to buy international brands and it is believed that soon India will be one of the largest consumer markets.

Secondly, due advancement of technology which is giving models access to the  global agencies resulting in new opportunities.

We must pay tribute to Priyanka Chopra for paving the way on international scene for our Desi Girls.

The stories of their individual journeys are filled in incidents overcoming discrimination and prejudice both at home and abroad.

The good news is that the notion of beauty is changing and becoming more versatile. Skin tone is no longer a standard of beauty internationally.

However in India we continue to struggle with prejudice relating to skin tone. The true representation of our population is not reflected in our advertising and films which continue to be dominated by an obsession with fair-skin.

It is important for Indian women to make a mark on the international scene not only for our national pride but we believe that they can be champions for Make in India hope that this will open the doors of the global markets for our  Desi-designers and crafts.

We are keeping a close look on: Radhika Nair, Bhumika Arora and Dipti Sharma who have graced the covers of Vogue Italia.

Fashion magazines and Runways around the world have been scouted by  LoomTree and we can tell you denim is undergoing a revival. We are seeing a celebration of indigo washes as the most worn look not only as Street Style but also in the Dressed-Up section.

Denim is very easily dressed up – well tailored jeans with a silk blouse and the right accessories can be a force to reckon with.

Wearing Denim to work has now become very acceptable. You have a choice from the wide range of suits; pairing them with simple white shirts or t-shirts.

A well structured Demin Jacket with a floral dress and mules will make you presentable for any meeting or presentation.

The denim market is bursting at the seams with new styles. Flared, cropped-flare, mom, boyfriend, frayed-hem, skinny and Boot Cut – Yes! Really! It’s a bit of a minefield, especially given that some styles are considerably more flattering and easier to wear than others.

But if you’re keen to look beyond your trusty straight leg jeans and experiment with more interesting options, darker washes are your friend. Not that darker shades ever went out of fashion but this season it is the highest sell-out of all colourways.

Mulberry silk – Indigo.

Every journey towards the path of sustainability starts with the first step. One tree saved; one worker in healthier working conditions or fewer pollutants in the rivers.

The key to making a lasting commitment is to understand your own passion and values and then convert these into actions. Even the big names in international fashion are getting into Sustainable Fashion.

Vivienne Westwoods Sustainable collection

Buy less, choose well and make it last

This quote by Vivienne Westwood is self explanatory.

Here are some simple ways to get you started:

Sustainable clothes are well-made of a high-quality materials is more eco-friendly because they last longer and do not need to be replaced so often. I know it is hard, but resist buying things with impossibly low price tags and lose the buy-and-toss behaviour.

Cheap in fashion simply doesn’t exist. Those clothes you bought impulsively might have been cheap to you, but once you add to them their real cost someone else had to pay with their health or damage to the environment. Not so cheap anymore

Start looking at your clothes differently.

Does this piece look great on me?

Is an important question but Should not be your only question. How about asking these as well?

  • Who made these clothes?
  • What materials were used?
  • Were the materials sustainable?
  • Where did they come from?
  • Where were they made?

Production of Mulberry silk

Being interested in the answers to these kinds of questions is the best first step towards changing the story for both the people who make our clothes and the environment.

Loom Tree is making clothes from sustainable materials, sourced from NGOs like SEWA and Sasha. We also run a community development project in Bihar and West Bengal. A mulberry plantation has been set up with a sericulture project. Hand spun mulberry yarn and handloom woven mulberry silk fabric is also being produced and will be in our stores soon.

Sunglasses can make or break an outfit. When you do them Right – they have a glamorous impact on the way you look .

We are all aware of the health benefits of Sunglasses, so lets move on to the glamour quotient.  The right sunglasses of course, radiate a really cool demeanor. Shades can also bring symmetry to your face. It can give a touch of mystery and of course make you feel more confident. Down memory lane we can just need to look at the iconic women in fashion Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Kennedy Onassis.

Audrey and Jackie harness the power of the sunglasses

With so much riding on your sunglasses it makes sense to keep ahead with the latest trends. The small frame sun glasses of the 90’s are back with a Bang! In fact the Trend dictates tinier the better. The minuscule shades  have become the glasses of choice of the fashion trendsetters like Bella and Gigi Hadid who are wearing these glasses every where – On the streets with their hoodies and on the Red carpet.

The Hadid Sisters are early adopters of the Look!

Spotted everywhere from Miu Miu to Louis Vuitton, the origins of the Matrix-esque glasses can actually be traced back to designer Demna Gvasalia, who showcased small black sunglasses for Balenciaga’s spring/summer 2017 show. Kendal Jenner was also seen on the runway sporting oval shaped frames with tinted-glasses.

But is this trend laughing in the face of practicality?

To be honest the tiny glasses are not capable of blocking UV rays of the sun or covering your eyes?  Nostalgia for the 90’s is one of the reasons for the comeback.

Are you a slave to fashion and movies?

If yes! Then the Oscars is truly a un-missable event and an evening to remember so get set for the Fashion Olympics.

The Oscars are not simply the celebration of cinema but also the evening when the years most memorable and beautiful clothes are worn on the red-carpet. Most of what is worn goes down in fashion history.

Do you remember Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly’s timeless grace? It is a flashback that is still relevant today.

There is no red-carpet more scrutinised than the clothes worn for Oscars.

Historical fashion friendships have been born on this events red-carpet – Givenchy and Audrey Hepburn. We can safely say that the outfits become more memorable than the films for which they were worn. For example Halle Berry’s outfit made Ellie Saab a household name.

Why do the clothes worn at the Oscars matter so much?

The answer is that men and women attending the event are very influential and we admire them for not only for the roles they chose but also the clothes they wear. We identify with our favourite actor or actress and are cheering for them so when they win we feel a sense of victory.

Have you faced challenges in your daily life? I am sure you have and this makes you sympathetic to the character from the movie who has struggled and when they win it makes us happy. The clothes they wear become part of our wish list.

We mere mortals enjoy watching our celebrities make the fashion choice that speaks for their strength and brilliance. The clothes worn go down in fashion history. There are plenty of award shows but they pale into insignificance when compared with the Oscars.

We are all holding our breath for the 2018 Oscars and the fabulous Gowns and Tuxedos.

How about making it an evening to remember!
Glam up with your friends and watch the show together.

Holi is around the corner are you ready to Party? Show off your fun and cool style

To be honest Holi can be a tricky festival to get dressed for as you are most likely to bin the outfit.

To enjoy the festival without any worries a lit bit of planning can go a long way in increasing the festivities. Wearing old clothes has become passé and the fashion conscious want to use it as an opportunity to show their fun and cool style.

How to look fashionable without sacrificing comfort? Here are some suggestions:

  • Do take inspiration from Bollywood and fashion a look based on Deepika’s “Balam Pichkari”. Wear a loose t-shirt in bright colours and pair with cut off jeans or pajamas. You will stand out and the colours will add to the out-fit.

  • Do go for a cotton fabric as it will not slouch after you have been soaked and go on enjoying the festival.
  • Don’t wear transparent clingy clothes – you know why. You are going to get so drenched and want to party on!
  • Don’t wear low-cut t-shirts. Even the super confident can get uncomfortable as we are never too sure of the crowd and do not want to attract unwanted attention.
  • Should you be interested in vintage fashion a trip down memory lane will serve you well. White chicankari kurta with a bandhini dupatta will work well. White saree worn by heroines of yester years can make people swoon.
  • Don’t wear comedy fancy costume – it will draw attention but not necessarily of a positive nature.

Click on the image to SHOP the look

  • Do wear a pair of smart swim shorts – borrow it from your boy-friend or brother if you do not want to buy one. The material is breathable, will dry quickly and will keep you cool and dry all day. They also come in all colours and shapes so can be very flattering.
  • Do not neglect your foot wear and headwear. You could try the Glastonbury look and wear wellies and a cool hat. There are so many available in the market.

Remember to be comfortable and safe this HOLI – do carry a reasonable bag. I would recommend a bumbag – keep your phone safe and of course your house keys.
